Yolanda Pineda Vargas is a Continuing Spanish Lecturer at the University of California, Merced. She completed a Master of Science at Purdue University in Microbiology in 1999 and a Master in Education at Universidad Industrial de Santander with an Emphasis in University Education Assessment in 1994. After 15 years as faculty in her home country Colombia, she joined University of California, Merced in July 2006. She has been teaching different Spanish language courses where she promotes an active learning atmosphere by using new ways to expose her students to the real word through service learning projects working with the Merced community. She is the adviser of two UC Merced student organization, Club de Español and Ballet Folklorico.
